In the Yoga Sutra attributed to Patañjali, verse 2.30 lists satya among the five yamas. In English, satya is commonly rendered as truthfulness and the yamas as ethical restraints. Satya appears alongside ahimsa, non-harming. The Yoga Sutra Study discussion of 2.30 presents the Sanskrit passage and several translations and commentaries.
This context matters: satya is not a posture, a sequence or a standalone yoga style established by that verse. It is one part of an ethical framework. Yoga’s traditions are diverse; this page introduces a particular textual reference rather than claiming to speak for all of them.

In her Yoga International teaching on satya, Irene (Aradhana) Petryszak connects truthfulness with integrity in thought, speech and action, and considers it alongside ahimsa. In that interpretation, truthful communication calls for care about its effects on others.
For a contemporary yoga identity, that offers a meaningful point of reflection: clear words, accurate claims and respect for the person receiving them. This application is our naming interpretation, not a quotation from the Yoga Sutra.
